An AC that runs but does not cool is the most common call we get, especially in summer. Some causes you can check yourself in five minutes. Others need a technician.
Check these first
1. Dirty filters. Dubai dust clogs filters fast. Slide them out, rinse them and let them dry.
2. Wrong settings. Make sure the mode is "cool", not "fan" or "dry", and the temperature is below room temperature.
3. Blocked outdoor unit. Boxes, plants or sand around the outdoor unit stop it releasing heat.
Call a technician for these
4. Low gas. If the pipes ice up or the air is only slightly cool, the unit may have a refrigerant leak. Topping up without fixing the leak only works for a short time.
5. Dirty coils. Coils covered in dust cannot move heat, even with clean filters.
6. Faulty capacitor or fan motor. A humming outdoor unit with a fan that will not spin often means an electrical part has failed.
7. Blocked drain line. Water dripping from the indoor unit usually means the drain is clogged, which can also trigger a safety cut-off.
When to book
